When Peter Rowe gets his truck ready twice a week for his trip into the outback, checks the diesel reserves and the air in the tyres, it looks as if he is getting ready for an extended expedition. In fact, Peter Rowe is the postman – and his round is one of the longest in the world.
In Coober Pedy he has his own mine and prospects for opals. And, like many in this desert area in South Australia, he lives in a dug-out home under the ground.
